leadership & organizational skills is needed to be “head server”. this position requires much multitasking with team members & guests. great communication skills & memory is needed to work this social job with demanding guests. supportive of team members. catering to guests needs requires a good attitude & stamina to be on your feet for long hours. efficiency, cleanliness, thoroughness is also a must.

main duties and responsibilities


  • assist hostess in seating guests when neededneeded
  • make sure tables are not missing silverwaresilverware & other set up requirments
  • straighten chairs in dining room & keep tidy
  • take drink or food order when the server needs help
  • give guests recommendations on food & beverages
  •  decant wine & serve to guests when Servers too busy
  • train new staff
  • follow checklists
  • know timing for “guest experience”
  • check kitchen if items coming out too slowly
  • run food back to kitchen if there is an issue, guest complaint
  • check bar if drinks coming out too slowlyPromote special dishes from  the chefReport guest, kitchen or bar problems to Guest Relations & Bar & Restaurant  Manager
  • follow checklists for opening & closing duties
  • memorization of all house pour wines, sparkling by the glass, cocktails, beer & soft drinksrestock & replenish dining room inventory & supplies
